Food is a big part of any vacation. Of course, there is the delight in dining out (and having someone else do the cooking and the dishes). There is also the opportunity to try something new, something local to the culture. The time sharing a meal with someone special is an occasion to slow down and concentrate on each other. It is time to talk about your day and the things you have seen and experienced together. Ohio’s Amish country has many dining options from small bites to Amish home-cooked meals to menus fit for foodies.
Amish Home-Cooked Meals
One of the best ways to get to know someone is over a meal. Learn more about the Amish culture as you share a meal under gas lamps. You’ll enjoy a traditional Amish meal and great company.
- Weaver’s Home Cooking – Forget going to a restaurant. This is your chance to experience a meal in an Amish home. Weaver’s accepts small and large groups. (Call to make a reservation, 330-674-1008)
- Benton Barnyard Dinners – Sam, Elsie, and their family love cooking and serving meals to new friends. They also welcome you to stay after dinner to play table games or interact with the farm animals. Finish the evening with s’mores around a bonfire. (Call to make a reservation, 330-600-0087)
Amish and Family Restaurants
Want a cozy restaurant that makes a good hearty meal? Look no further than these options.
- Berlin Farmstead – Conveniently located off of Main Street in Berlin, the restaurant is open for lunch or dinner Monday through Saturday. Looking for a stick-to-you-bones breakfast? Stop in on a Friday or Saturday morning. They feature an extensive Amish kitchen cooking menu. If you simply cannot decide from the menu there are two buffet options: the Barn Raising Buffet with salad bar or the Family-Style buffet for your table. Be sure to save room for a slice of pie for dessert.
- Boyd and Wurthmann Restaurant – Affectionately known as “Where the local eat,” Boyd’s has been serving meals since 1938. They do not take reservations and you may find a line down the block but it is worth the wait. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner with daily specials Monday through Saturday. This is another place that you will want to save room for dessert. They boast 15-20 different kids of pie each day.
- Yoder’s Kitchen – Ever wanted to take a to-go box from a buffet? At Mrs. Yoder’s you can come in, fill a box, and take it with you to enjoy at home or on your travels. The authentic Amish buffet is also available for dine-in. Open Monday through Saturday for lunch and dinner.

They make over 25 varieties of cheese so you are certain to find something that you like. Pick up everything you need for a charcuterie plate of meats, cheeses, mustards, jellies, and sweets. Visit in the morning on a Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday and take a self-guided tour to watch the cheese being made.
- Buggy Brew Coffee Co. in Sheiyah Market – Savor local coffee that has been roasted by Red Mug Coffee Co. They have a full menu of coffee drinks and seasonal specialties. Coffee shops aren’t just for breakfast. Stop in anytime for homemade energy bars, scones, and cookies.
Restaurants for Foodies
Whether you are a full-fledged foodie, or a foodie-in-training, Ohio’s Amish Country has restaurants to suit your need for hand-crafted meals created with interesting ingredients.
- Olde World Bistro and Bakery – The restaurant all started by looking to the garden for sustenance. The owner’s passion for heirloom food and artisan meals grew into a place to share that lifestyle with others. The dinner menu features classic pasta entrees like spaghetti and meatballs alongside shrimp alfredo. Be certain to try their twist on classic meatloaf, hint – it’s wrapped in bacon.
- Cider Press – One of the newest options in the area, this restaurant just opened in 2022. The menu is always changing based on the availability of local ingredients but you can always depend on a unique assortment of ciders. The Cider Press is open for lunch and dinner Thursday through Saturday as well as brunch on Sunday. Check out their Facebook page for mouthwatering images of past specials.
