Romance comes in many different forms. Some people like flowers and wine. Some people like to plan surprises for their loved one. Some people want nothing more than quality time together. We have suggestions for five ways to spend quality time together to boost your love for one another.
Dundee Falls is a 15-foot waterfall that is easily accessed via a two-mile round trip hike in the Beach City Wildlife Area. The falls are surrounded by lush forest. While easily accessed, it is not as popular as some other hikes in the area making it the ideal spot to stage a few photographs without anyone else in the frame. The short journey to the falls passes by sandstone bluffs and hemlock trees; you may find yourself taking photos for the entire hike. Bring shoes that you don’t mind getting muddy if it has rained recently because the trail is not paved. The trail is open year-round; do you want a flowing water or a frozen waterfall picture?
It is lovely to open a bottle of wine with a candlelit dinner. It is also lovely to sip a few varieties while visiting a winery. Ohio’s Amish Country is lucky to have six local wineries. You can make a day out of visiting one or two, trying wines in their tasting rooms, and enjoying a light lunch of wine and cheese. Many wineries offer live music on weekend days. Kick off your shoes and dance the day away together. Build memories together and make sure to purchase a bottle to remember your Amish Country vacation while you celebrate your next anniversary.
If laughter is the best medicine, then fun must be a huge part of romance. Mini golf is one of the most perfect games. It involves playful competition and the chance to spend time outdoors. The best part is that you do not have to be good at it to enjoy it. Country Acres Mini Golf boasts two 18-hole courses that are fun for everyone. Play one, or both, the rates are very affordable for an afternoon or early evening of fun. The Bridge Course is the more challenging of the two courses at Country Acres. The Bridge Course also features a covered bridge and a waterfall. Both are perfect for a quick romantic selfie. Don’t forget to sneak in a celebratory kiss when one of you gets a hole-in-one. After playing, make sure to enjoy hand dipped ice cream on the patio.
When you are dating or married, especially if it has been for a long time, it can be easy to fall into the routine of doing the same things again and again. A visit to The Farm at Walnut Creek can change all of that. It is a unique, fun, and educational experience. The farm has over 500 animals. Sure, there are cows and horses and sheep, but there is so much more. This farm has animals from six of the seven continents. You will see giraffes, porcupines, camels, tortoises, zebras, parrots, and kangaroos. You can hand-feed some of the animals. You can get up close to some of the animals in the petting area. You can even view the animals from a horse-drawn carriage. Stroll through the non-electric farm houses so you can strike up a conversation later about whether or not you could live without electricity. Don’t forget to stop by the produce stand to see what is in season.
The couple that exercises together stays together. Work up a sweat while keeping yourself healthy so that you can spend many more years together. The Holmes County Trail is 22 miles of paved trail from Fredericksburg to Killbuck and Glenmont to Brinkhaven. There are plans for another seven miles of trail to be completed in the future. You may be lucky enough to spot a horse and buggy while traversing the trail because it is the first trail in the nation to accommodate Amish buggies. One side of the trail is “paved” with “chip and seal” making it horse friendly. Observation decks along the trail offer a quiet place to spot wildlife or simply soak up the sounds of nature. The word “picnic” oftens brings up images of a couple sitting on a gingham blanket while enjoying a warm, sunny day. Recreate your own picnic image at the Millersburg Depot or at the trailheads in Killbuck and Glenmont. Trail information and restrooms can be found at the Millersburg Depot/Hipp Station.
