There are so many people to celebrate on Father’s Day. Of course, there is the man you call dad. There is also the special guy in your life who your kids call dad. There is the uncle or grandfather who raised you like father would. There is the “dad” to your dog, cat, or other pet. There is even the love of your life who you hope to raise a family with in the future. No matter who you are celebrating, there are activities and attractions that will appeal to the special men in your life while on a getaway in Ohio’s Amish Country.
The Downtown Square is the center of Berlin’s music scene every Friday night from the end of May until mid-September.
Music on the Square begins at 7 pm and features local and regional artists. This year, Finish Line will be playing on the Friday of Father’s Day weekend. The bluegrass band is based out of Millersburg. Father’s Day may be June 18 but you can celebrate the dads in your life all month long. June 2 is singer-songwriter Ren Rocks; June 9 is country music with 39-West; June 23 is John Schmid with a combination of country, folk, and gospel; and June 30 is Lena Mullet with Christian music. The Square is only a couple blocks away from Donna’s.
Treat your special guy to a round of golf for Father’s Day. Play the round with him or just drive the golf cart and cheer him on along the course.
Fire Ridge Golf Course in Millersburg showcases the rolling hills of Holmes County. The front and back nine are each unique in their design. The front nine, designed in 1929, offers a lot of forgiveness when shots go awry. The back nine, designed in 1999, is shorter in yardage but challenges golfers with difficult tee shots. On the Saturday of Father’s Day weekend, the course becomes the home of the Love INC Golf Scramble. The 4-man team event is open to the public. If mini golf is more your style, venture to Sugarcreek for a round at
Cabin Creek Golf. The facility boasts two 18-hole putt putt golf courses, a driving range, a sand volleyball court, and batting cages.
Get outdoors and go for a hike together.
The Wilderness Center in Wilmot has 12 miles of trails that are open dawn to dusk every day. Along the way you will see old growth forests, prairies, and wetlands. The
Beach City Wildlife Area is an outdoor enthusiast’s dream. Along with hiking there is boating, hunting, birding, and fishing. Does your guy like to take nature photographs? Hike to Dundee Falls for a beautiful photo opportunity.
Mohican State Park is another opportunity for a waterfall hike. Consider adding a trek to covered bridge and fire tower to your itinerary. Lastly, the
Holmes County Rails to Trails is a paved path for hikers, bicyclists, horseback riders, and buggies. It is a fun way to get outside for some exercise without worrying about trail maps or tripping on rocks.
The
Amish Country Theater has three shows in June that your guy is sure to love. Everyone loves a good laugh and comedian Robert G. Lee is serving side-splitting jokes on June 14. He has spent years as a sitcom warm-up act and is known for his good, clean comedy. For the guys who love music there are two tribute acts that are not to be missed. Richie Santa will be on stage with his band on June 7. Richie is an Elvis impersonator who captures all of the best of the King of Rock-n-Roll. Another classic music act is immortalized by Queen Flash on June 21. The 6-piece band has all the energy of a real Queen concert.
As the saying goes, the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. Berlin is home to one of the perfect places to treat your sweet guy.
MainStreet Fudge and Popcorn Co. is the sweetest place in town. They have over 80 different flavors of homemade popcorn. Unique popcorn flavors include mint with chocolate drizzle, root beer float, cheddar and sour cream, and taco. If fudge is more your style, you can try more than 50 types including peanut butter oreo, orange chocolate, cookie dough, and butterfingers. If all of that is not tempting enough, how about 40 flavors of salt water taffy, 24 flavors of old fashioned soda floats, and a variety of hand dipped and soft serve ice cream.
